Artist's Statement
What motivates me to draw is to entertain others. I love when people are happy about the art I make for them. Some of my biggest inspirations are the media I like. Be it video games, television, or movies, all of these make me happy, and in turn draw out my creativity and motivate me to put my ideas onto paper. One of the most common themes in my work is the concept of self identity, being who you want to be. Over time, my art has evolved greatly, to the point where I finally feel reasonably confident in what I make. With all the different mediums I’ve learned and improved upon over the years, I’ve come a long way from simple unrendered felt pen and pencil crayon drawings.
My process begins by finding references, or making them myself. This mostly consists of poses, as I draw a lot of people. After that, I sketch my idea, starting from the base shapes and ending with a messy version of my idea. I’m more experimental with my digital art, as there is a lot more room for error, though sometimes I do experiment with traditional art mediums. My favorite part to experiment with is the rendering process, as it is the part of the process I’m the least confident with. I like trying out different methods and watching it improve before my eyes. I know when my art is done once I finish rendering every part of the piece. After that I may add finishing touches, mainly to the lights and shadows, but that’s it.
